About veronica

Hello, friend! I'm mighty flattered by your interest! HUGS. I'm quite nosy myself, so here's a little about me: I've always been an unabashed bookworm and big nerd! I taught high-school English for a few years and was a librarian, too (also, a hip-hop dance instructor 'cause I'm Renaissance like that...ha!). I live in Colorado, raising two sons and three brussels griffon pups (envision mini Ewoks), with my dear husband! Like many a lady, I've always particularly enjoyed romance, especially of the Victorian variety. I vividly remember first reading Jane Eyre as a 5th grader and crying disconsolately when (spoiler alert!) Jane flees Thornfield. My mom, extremely concerned, repeatedly asked what was wrong, following me from room to room as I inarticulately sobbed. I only calmed down after noticing there were many chapters left! (YAY!) From that point on, I would "brook no refusal," all I wanted was to endlessly "take a turn about the room" with the Brontes, Austen and company, as well as watch every adaptation of their work on repeat... NEVER ENOUGH! More, more, MORE! And thus, inspired by Beverly Cleary's advice to write the book you want to see on the shelf, Jane Heir was born! (And Austen modernizations are soon to come, when babies and life allow!)

Fun Facts

I'm half-Colombian, and I was raised bilingual--thanks, Mami!

I have a twin brother, who is a professor of Political Theory (uber nerd!).

I have degrees in English Lit and Spanish Lang/Lit, and a Masters in Secondary English Education from Brown... Yep--NERD!

I love to dance, especially ballet and flamenco!

My other hobbies (well, before I had kids!) include playing the piano, riding horses, knitting/crocheting/sewing... because anything worth doing is worth doing badly, and I do it with gusto!

No joke, before Jane Heir, the longest creative writing piece I wrote was a poem! You can read it here.
