I really enjoyed this book. Jane's commitment to God and her faith was just as profound here as it was in the original Jane Eyre. The cursing at first seemed out of place, but I liked that it made the characters and their spiritual struggles seem more realistic. The other characters' behaviors also made Jane's determination to be "in the world but not of the world" more apparent. This was also a really good romance too, sweet, funny, and full of passion and longing. Glad I bought it!

In this retelling of Jane Eyre, Cristero sticks as close as possible to the original story while giving it an update to which modern readers can more easily relate. Cristero's honest portrayal of friendship, love, regret, and betrayal show that Bronte's themes are just as relevant today as when she first wrote the novel. I love the way Cristero captured the relationship between Jane and ER (Rochester), which is one of my favorite aspects of the original as well. A great read for both those who know and love Jane Eyre and those who are unfamiliar with the story!

This moving work is both a respectful homage to the original Jane Eyre and a compelling work of fiction in its own right. Fans of the original will appreciate an emotional tone that echoes Bronte’s novel, and astute character development that is sure to stir empathy and investment among readers. Cristero reinterprets familiar themes of abandonment, finding family and home, and loss and redemption with innovation and creativity. I found myself immediately invested in her characters and their lives, and found it easy to get swept away in her lyrical and evocative writing style. My only frustration was having to condense my reading into the limited time slots that busy modern life allowed…had I been left to my own devices, I would have been hard-pressed to put the book down! I would highly recommend this novel to die-hard Bronte fans and novices alike...a brilliant work!
